Dr. Lief Nordberg is a board-certified surgeon in Fairfield County who can perform this more conservative procedure to achieve your goals while minimizing recovery time and scarring.
What advantages might a tummy tuck offer for the right patient?
Mini vs. Traditional Tummy Tuck
While a traditional tummy tuck can help patients address cosmetic concerns from their upper to lower abdomen, a mini tummy tuck is ideal for patients who have less excess skin or fat on their abdomen and want to address only the lower part of their midsection. The procedure is less invasive than a traditional tummy tuck because it can be performed with smaller incisions near the pubic line. A mini tummy tuck offers several benefits including:
- Smaller, more discreet incision
- No incision around the belly button
- Reduced scarring
- Shorter time in surgery
- Quicker recovery
Mini tummy tucks are often referred to as "scarless tummy tucks" because of the discreet scarring associated with the procedure.
The incision from a mini tummy tuck will be discreet, and most patients can continue to wear swimsuits without revealing their surgical scars.
Planning Your Surgery
In order to determine whether you are a good candidate for a mini tummy tuck, Dr. Nordberg will review your areas of concern with you and explain which areas can be addressed with a mini tummy tuck. Depending on the extent of your cosmetic concerns and your desired outcomes, you may be a better candidate for a traditional tummy tuck. The majority of your excess skin and fat should reside in your lower abdomen in order to be effectively addressed by a mini tummy tuck. Patients undergoing body contouring procedures should also be close to their goal weight and committed to a health and fitness plan in order to help them maintain the results of their surgery. If you are planning on having more children, we recommend waiting to undergo a mini tummy tuck, as pregnancy can reverse the results of your procedure.
After placing you under a comfortable level of anesthesia, Dr. Nordberg will create an incision at the lower part of your abdomen. This incision will be discreet, and most patients can continue to wear swimsuits without revealing their surgical scars. Dr. Nordberg will then remove excess fat through the incision and tighten the abdominal wall, which may be damaged as a result of prior pregnancies. Once the desired amount of fat has been removed and the abdominal wall is tightened, Dr. Nordberg will trim away excess, sagging skin and stretch the remaining skin over your lower abdomen. Eliminating excess fat and skin can allow you to achieve a tighter, more contoured, and youthful appearance in your midsection.
