Having a smaller or flatter backside than you desire can make you feel self-conscious.
At his practice serving patients in Stamford, CT, and throughout Fairfield County, Dr. Leif Nordberg can perform a Brazilian butt lift to contour and enhance your buttocks.
Why should you consider a Brazilian butt lift?
This type of body contouring uses the patient’s own fat to add curves and volume to the posterior. More popular now than ever, the Brazilian butt lift is a surgical procedure that should only be performed by a qualified cosmetic surgeon. Dr. Nordberg has extensive experience in cosmetic surgery, with a reputation for artistry and dedication to patient satisfaction. The Brazilian butt lift is a type of fat grafting procedure that uses liposuction to transfer fat from one or more areas of the patient’s body to the buttocks. Typically, the fat is removed from the back, abdomen, hips, or thighs. The fat cells are then processed and purified, and only the best donor fat cells are used. Dr. Nordberg will inject these purified cells at various locations and depths into the buttocks so that the enhancement looks smooth and natural.
Results and Recovery
You will see results from your butt lift immediately. However, the final results will not be apparent until about a year after surgery, since some time must pass for the fat to “take.” For the first three weeks after surgery, it is important not to sit directly on your buttocks. This will allow the graft to take hold and will help ensure a long-lasting result. You will be scheduled for a follow-up appointment approximately one week post-surgery. For two weeks, you will wear a compression garment to control swelling. After four weeks, you should be able to resume your normal activities.
Men or women with flat or undersized buttocks with sufficient fat in other areas of the body are generally excellent candidates for a Brazilian butt lift. Often, the procedure is chosen by those who:
- Have lost weight and decreased their posterior volume
- Have tried exercise to enhance the area, without success
- Simply desire a rounder or perkier backside
Since liposuction is the first step, patients who are interested in whittling their waist, abdomen, hips, or thighs are exceptionally good candidates for this kind of butt augmentation. Since only the best fat is transferred, the surgeon generally needs to liposuction up to three times the amount of fat that will in turn be injected into the buttocks. Liposuction that makes the waist or lower back smaller will also make the butt appear more shapely and prominent.
Besides simply enhancing the behind, butt augmentation can produce more overall proportion. A smooth transitional curve through the breast, waist, and buttocks creates the most pleasing, attractive head-to-toe appearance.
Comparison to Implants
Compared to butt implants, the Brazilian butt lift offers several advantages. The buttocks are a very mobile area, and implants are mechanical devices that are prone to reposition themselves. Also, because augmentation results from fat grafting versus a mechanical device, the patient will not experience discomfort when sitting, or feel physically different, after their enhancement.
In addition, the Brazilian butt lift offers:
- Smaller incisions
- Faster recovery time
- Additional liposuction/body sculpting
- No implant visibility
- No chance of implant rejection
Like all surgeries, a Brazilian butt lift involves a certain degree of risk. Some temporary discomfort, numbness, swelling, and bruising should be expected with fat grafting. Some risks and complications could include:
- Contour irregularities (from liposuction)
- Temporary fluid accumulation
- Lasting numbness
- Skin infection
- Fat embolism (from injections)
When performed by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon, serious complications are rare. You can minimize other complications by following the instructions and advice of your plastic surgeon.
