Could You Use a Pick Me Up?

Breast Lift surgery improves the appearance of sagging breasts by elevating the nipple and removing excess, "stretched-out" skin. Occasionally, an implant is needed to fill out the upper pole of the breasts. The goal is to reshape the breasts and elevate the nipples to a more youthful location.  The scar pattern is varied, ranging from a scar around the nipple to an anchor-shaped pattern similar to a breast reduction.  Some patients are concerned about the scars needed to perform a breast lift, but when they see the improvement in breast shape that can be achieved, the scars become much less of an issue.  Furthermore, the scars fade with time making them barely noticeable. 

This procedure is a day surgery procedure and, following a period of recovery in our facility, you are able to go home.  Some sutures need to be removed usually at one and two weeks, occasionally at three weeks postoperatively.  I ask that you do not perform any heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for three weeks after the procedure.  My breast lift patients also wear a comfortable, yet supportive bra for three weeks.  I encourage you to then continue wearing a supportive bra to help maintain the results of surgery.  Bruising and swelling after a breast lift resolve by about two weeks. 

Patients may opt for an implant with their breast lift.  This can be done to either increase breast size or, as mentioned above, to help fill out the upper portion of the breast.  A breast lift often does not add volume to the upper breast, prompting the need for an implant.  I use both saline and silicone implants in breast enhancement surgery depending on the specific needs/desires of the patient.  This would be discussed further in our consultation.
