Breast Augmentation Stamford, Connecticut – Plastic, Cosmetic Surgery

Augmentation mammoplasty is now the most popular cosmetic surgical procedure performed in the United States. The basic procedure has been in existence for approximately 30 years, and has seen a gradual improvement in technique and materials used. At the present time, the knowledgeable plastic surgeon has at his or her disposal a variety of techniques and implants which can be varied to suit an individual patient's needs. Each procedure is, therefore, customized to provide the best possible cosmetic result for each patient.

Breast augmentation can be performed via multiple incisions, such as in the inframammary fold, around the areaola (pigmented skin around the nipple), or via the axilla.  A pocket is then created either under the pectoralis major muscle or behind the breast gland itself, and the implant is placed in the pocket.  There are two main types of implants we use today- saline and silicone gel.  Silicone gel implants tend to be a little more natural both visibly and to touch.  Saline implants can be just as natural, and many patients still opt for saline.  I take measurements of each patient to help pick the most suitable implant for them.  The choice of implant for a given patient will be discussed in detail during the consultation.

The operation is done on a day surgery basis, in which you enter the suite in the morning, have your surgery, and leave a few hours later.  Surgical results are seen immediately following the procedure.  Postoperative discomfort can last one to two weeks, and there is no exercise for three weeks.  My patients where a supportive bra for three weeks after surgery.
