Liposuction gives the aesthetic surgeon the ability to permanently re-contour the human body through very small "strategically" placed incisions. It essentially involves "de-bulking" the fatty layer beneath the skin, and then allowing the skin to gradually contract. What occurs is an immediate improvement following the surgery yet a change that continues to gradually look better and better over the following 6 - 12 months.
The results obtained from liposuction, in terms of changes in body contour, are considered to be permanent. The reason for this is that the body contains a limited number of fat cells, which either get larger or smaller with weight gain or loss, respectively, but which remain constant in number. Liposuction, on the other hand, removes fat cells, and thereby results in a permanent contour change. Weight redistribution does not occur. If someone were to gain a considerable amount of weight after surgery, they would gain the weight everywhere, but their contour would not change.
The procedure is usually done on a day surgery basis in my private, fully-accredited, Ambulatory Surgical Facility.
