Breast reduction surgery is designed to accomplish two major goals: to make breasts smaller, and to lift them. Most women with excessively large, heavy breasts also have sagging breasts because of the effects of gravity. Virtually all women requesting this procedure complain of either upper or lower back pains, shoulder cramping, painful tender breasts and the general inability to purchase decently fitting clothing. Activities of daily living such as sports, jogging and general exercise are also restricted.
The operation basically involves leaving the nipple and areola (the pigmented circular area immediately surrounding the nipple) attached to you and elevating them to a new, predetermined location higher up. Beneath the nipple, a "pie wedge" portion of full thickness breast tissue, including skin, breast gland, and fat is removed. The remaining breast tissue is brought together under the nipple and areola to support the breast in its new position.
The procedure can be performed in my private, fully-accredited Ambulatory Surgical Facility or in the hospital depending on particular circumstances.
