Augmentation mammoplasty is now the most popular cosmetic surgical procedure performed in the United States. The basic procedure has been in existence for approximately 30 years, and has seen a gradual improvement in technique and materials used. At the present time, the knowledgeable plastic surgeon has at his or her disposal a variety of techniques and implants which can be varied to suit an individual patient's needs. Each procedure is, therefore, customized to provide the best possible cosmetic result for each patient.
The operation involves the placement of an implant, usually filled with saline (salt water), and usually encased in a silicone membrane, either under or over the pectoral muscle, but in all cases, under the breast gland itself. Incisions can be made in a variety of locations. This will be discussed further during your consultation. This can be performed in the comfort and privacy of my Ambulatory Surgical Facility, avoiding the need to enter the hospital. It is done on a Day Surgery basis, in which you enter the suite in the morning, have your surgery, and leave a few hours later.
